I’ve been leveling Ranger now for how long?… Eh, too long in my tastes. With how I tend to play, this really isn’t a job choice I’d recommend for people without any means of getting a fair sum of gil (150k~300k+) in under a day. Despite that, I enjoyed it greatly, though I do miss the times shared with the uber PLD–my original reason for starting up RNG at all.

Got into my first merit party at level 72, and I was told to /anon for the reason that our benevolent RDM healer wouldn’t party with anyone below level 75. I’d say I did fairly well, but the DRG in the party was fairly gimp. He had stuff like Ace’s Helm and homam, sure, but he decided to both TP and WS in full Ares’s. In other words, he’s a rich gimp.

After gimping it up, he insulted my use of Scorpion Arrows for TP. I decided to do the neighborly thing and fling that right back at him with his decision to avoid gear swapping in macros, as well as TPing without a 6-hit/Haste build. He never replied back.

Several parties later, mostly ones of 8k/hr EXP and below unfortunately, the moment I had finally been waiting for occurred:

CeruleanDivinity had its first sky run on Wednesday, not even a full twenty-four hours after I dinged RNG75. Estrellita, our leader, called me on RNG to act as an NM scanner… so I sat and had a cup of tea with Professor Faust while everyone else tried to get Despot, and killed Zipacna.

After Faust, of course we had to do some Diorite farming.

I prefer to call it “Rebuffering, alliance style”… namely because diorite never drops.

Level Sync made me 13 skills below cap at 75, but the farming helped that out quite a bit!

Unfortunately I could only go 4 merits into Archery, since I’m now 20/20 under combat merits. Ranger isn’t a job I’ll be using all the time anyway, so it doesn’t bother me that much.

I had two days off this week, so I figured I’d try my hand at Eastern Shadow again to prevent MulletHaven from ever having to not do a boss floor in Nyzul. The first night I was given ToD by Kurosama, who had also been camping it. I stayed out there early though with nothing to do, and stayed up pretty much throughout the morning with him (occasional powernaps here and there). He got the claim while I was asleep, but a well-timed call1 let me finish it off with Eagle Eye Shot and Sidewinder. No drop that time. :<

Last night I tried again, this time solo since he was out EXPing with some other members of the sky/sea LS. I went down at about 10PM, and it didn’t spawn until… what, you thought I’d give the ToD openly here?

Anyway, I was lucky that the other three (RDM, THF, BLM) were in the wc or something at the time. I managed to snag Eastern Shadow with shadowbind (lol), and knocked him down with EES, Barrage, and Sidewinder. This was my 18th total kill, so I knew what to expect–just a stupid Revival Tree Root.
