Every time I click on a hyperlink to the official SE FFXI forums, I prepare myself for one of the worst social pits of ignorance, absurdity, and retardation that the Final Fantasy community could ever dream of offering. It’s literally second only to visiting the FFXIAH forums and seeing a thread on religion. My thoughts on seeing new dev posts lately can be summed up entirely in a fancy t-shirt. That said, it’s Dragoon time so I’ll give it a whirl!

Healing Breath IV (Lv. 80)

Here’s something that the Dragoon community has been asking for for… well, ages. We kept getting new wyvern HP gear and the like to try and boost the breath, sure, but over time it began to steadily drop in potency compared to the effectiveness of actual healers. Whilst that is a good thing, don’t get me wrong, it also didn’t make the job on soloists any easier. They still had their high HP to keep up with, but didn’t get a decent healing boost to pack the extra necessary punch. Even with Wyrm Armet and all the gear available, a soloist in a dangerous fight still has a lot of rather unnecessary stress to handle. I’m certain that the new tier of Healing Breath will assist in that.

Remove Breath:  Curse/Bane/Doom (Lv. 60)   Disease/Plague (Lv. 80)

More additions to the Remove Breath family are always welcomed. It’s not like it can end up as badly bugged as healing automaton AI, right?… Right…?

Spirit Surge

“The “Haste” effect granted by Spirit Surge will be stackable with similar effects granted by spells and equipment.” For those who never played Dragoon, or never found a situation to utilize it, Spirit Surge granted a large haste boost (25%, if I recall) that filtered into the magic category. What this change insinuates is that the haste bonus from Spirit Surge will be granted its own category, meaning for players that have a Bard in their group (which I sincerely hope you do) it won’t be a waste of a 2hr.

Jump / Spirit Jump

“Recast time shortened from 90 to 60 seconds. / Jump Recast: Shortens recast time by 2 seconds (previously 3 seconds).” Any Dragoon worth the spot in a group will have Jump fully merited, so we can already assume (90-(3*5)) A 75 second recast. Now we have a 50 second recast. So, in a perfect hour of perfect timing, we go from 48 Spirit Jumps to 72 Spirit Jumps. Given the absurd level of TP generation Spirit Jump provides, as well as the large damage potential, this is a remarkable damage boost. No complaints here!

High Jump / Soul Jump

“Recast time shortened from 180 to 120 seconds. / High Jump Recast: Shortens recast time by 4 seconds (previously 6 seconds).” with High Jump having specifically added, “Expanded range. / Will also remove enmity from the nearest party member behind the dragoon.” Just like Spirit Jump, this means more Soul Jumps you can do, thus more damage and more TP generation. Lining up for the High Jump effect, given how little people know how to stand in a line in any MMO, is fairly ridiculous. Good going to any groups who can manage to properly utilize a trait of an ability that, before, was only gained through 2hr.

Super Jump

Super Jump is gaining the same expanded range and removing enmity effects that High Jump is. I think these will see much, much greater use on Super Jump simply due to the fact that no Dragoon will have to sacrifice their Soul Jump for the benefit. On the flip side, without proper positioning it may also become a dangerous matter. Want to piss off a tank? Stand in front of them and Super Jump! Then you wipe your group. Enjoy.

Spirit Link

“Recast time shortened from 180 to 90 seconds. / Spirit Link Recast : Shortens recast time by 3 seconds (previously 6 seconds).” More Spirit Links enable Dragoons to heal their wyverns more often, of course. *draws his old man cane* I still recall when we didn’t HAVE Spirit Link, and Call Wyvern was our 2HR ability. The little kids on the forums are complaining about Call Wyvern’s “long recast” now, and how it’s “so hard” to keep their wyverns alive. Bite my retired Elvaan ass.

Attribute Ranking Adjustments

“HP will be raised from C to C+. / Evasion skill will be raised from C- to B. / Parrying skill will be raised from C to B-.” I am always down for some more survival, and I’m sure healers will appreciate this upcoming change as well. Anyone who has a complaint about these changes for their Dragoon needs to have their heads screwed on more tightly, because something must be loose in there.

Sort of a bland post, but also sort of bland updates. What do you really expect from a game company that has people saying Nyzul Isle was good enough to revive it for “new content”?

Exactly.

*Draws his old man cane* Well i remember when they didn’t have the fancy level 76, and all that junk. When you trained a mob to a zone and it just destroyed everyone who was nearby. And a host of other “fixes”.
